Qualifications

Michigan Licensed Engineer (P.E.) in Mechanical Engineering- Dynamics/Machine Design/Vibration

Teaching assistant in College, 15+ years math tutoring experience

800/800 in GRE (Graduate Record Exam like SAT/ACT) Math

All A乫s in Master and Ph.D. graduate math classes  (I have MS degree not Ph. D. degree)

I have students who recently scored 800/800 in SAT I Math,𧐠/800 in SAT II Math, 5/5 in AP Calculus AB, 5/5 in Calculus BC, 5/5 in AP Physics...

My Approaches and Policies

I am an engineer who loves math.  Depending on the level, I can teach you the short cuts or I can teach you the details.  There are so many formulas but only parts of them have to be memorized and there is a way that you will never forget.  If you don't understand or don't like approach 1, I will try approach 2, 3, 4,5... until either you are satisfied or all the possible existing methods are exhausted.

At the first or second session, I normally give students an assessment test (and don't be concerned about the test results) so I can better understand what he/she needs.

Here are things the students should prepare at each class (this does not apply to SAT/ACT prep classes)-

  •
    • Syllabus from school
    • Chapters/Pages covered at school
    • Upcoming exams, quizzes, tests
    • List of confusions if any

During my class, stop me anytime you don't understand so he/she will have no excuse for bad scores at school.  Be ready for my classes.

Here are some of the successful stories to share.  Sorry, I have NO sad stories; all of my students were eventually successful and satisfied.

Student 1-  Scored 800/800 in SAT I Math, 800/800 in SAT II Math, 5/5 in AP Calculus AB, 5/5 in Calculus BC, 5/5 in AP Physics...Accepted to UC Berkeley, UCLA, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, UP Wharton, Duke, Brown.

Student 2 College graduate who wasn抰 able to pass GRE for Graduate school at Wayne State.  After 4 review sessions, she scored above average in GRE math and happily accepted.

Student 3 A Cranbrook High School Sophomore who had average of B- in her pre-cal at the time her parents asked my help.  One month later, she received final grade 揂" with a big smile on her face.

Student 4 A Troy High School freshman who was a 揇 student in Math.  He almost gave up on math until his parents asked my tutoring.  After a whole summer抯 sharpening, he evolved.  As of today, he is an 揂 student in the math class with a lot of self-confidence.  Update (2/1/2007):  He received 98% at Midterm and 100% at Final and now the top 1 in the class.  Ask me for his parents phone number to verify and reference.

Fine, here is a sad story.  A high school Junior who struggled with math. In order to motivate him, his parents bought him a brand new sport car for a discount price of $18,500 instead of hiring a math tutor for $30 an hour or about $300 a month. Talking about investment, one year later he decided to drop out of high school due to the frustration in math.
